Gunfire rocked Apac town this afternoon following a clash between Maxwell Akora, the Maruzi County legislator and security operatives led by Emmanuel Peace Opollo, the Lango Regional Internal Security Officer-RISO.

It all started after the security operatives led by Opollo reportedly intercepted his convoy on his way from Akororo Sub-county, where he had gone to cast his vote.

They accused the legislator of campaigning for Dr. Kizza Besigye, the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC Party presidential candidate.

According to Akora, his supporters jumped off their vehicle to force Opollo and his team to give way, which forced him to run back to his vehicle, where he drew a gun and started firing in the air.

Lt George Musinguzi, the 5th Division army spokesperson, confirmed the incident but blamed it squarely on the MP.

Akora told URN that he has already notified the Apac District Police Commander and also instructed his lawyer to take up the matter.

The legislator is battling to shield his seat from NRM's Eddy Ococ. He has also been accused of Betty Engola, the NRM Apac Woman parliamentary candidate and wife to Sam Engola, the State Minister for Urban Development.

Betty Engola is contesting against the incumbent Apac Woman MP, Lucy Ajok, a sister to Akora.
