Prison warders in Gulu have re-arrested two inmates who attempted to escape from Gulu Prison on Wednesday evening.

Musa Ibrahim and Wellborn Onen were remanded to the facility on allegations of murdering Patrick Opiyo, a 20 year old resident of Kasubi Central village in Bardege division in Gulu Municipality last week.

The duo ran away a few metres to the facility as they returned from Court. Boda boda cyclists gave chase and helped the prison wardens re-arrest the suspects.

The two took advantage of open Kaunda Ground to escape from prison warders on guard duty.

The warders fired several shots in the air as they trailed Onen on the bare ground while Musa ran in opposite direction.

Margret Orik Obonyo, the Gulu Central Prisons chief told Uganda Radio Network that she was out of office to comment on the matter.

Allan Okello, the Northern regional prisons commander says he was yet to receive report about the incident.
