Two people have been killed and one critically injured after gunmen attacked and opened fire on their house at Nakasero zone in Wobulenzi Town Council in Luweero district.
The deceased have been identified as a 3 year old child Joshua Kasozi and his mother Annet Nakaye. Nakaye's husband Yiga Musisi is a well-known witchdoctor in Wobulenzi town.
The Police Spokesperson for Savannah/Ssezibwa Regions Lameck Kigozi explains that unidentified gunmen came through the main gate at around 11pm on Monday night. They then opened fire on the victims through a window.
Kigozi explains that the child Joshua Kasozi was hit in the head and died instantly. His mother Annet Nakaye was shot in the stomach and was rushed to Bishop Asili Hospital (Lacor Hospital branch) in Luweero town council where she died at around 3am.
He adds that another patient who had come to seek treatment from the witchdoctor identrified as Prossy Nansamba was also shot in the back and is currently hospitalized at Bishop Asili hospital.
Kigozi says that Yiga Musisi managed to escape unhurt and rushed to the Chairman LC 1 who called police but found the gunmen already left the scene after the shooting. Kigozi says that the gunmen had intention to shot and kill only because they didn’t steal anything.
Joshua Kasozi 's body has been transferred to Kasana Health Center IV for postmortem and police has started investigations in the shooting.
Grief and panic has engulfed residents of the Nakasero zone and they are calling for quick investigations in the matter.
Jane Namubiru, a resident, says the incident has created fear and raises questions whether the police patrol actually works if they were unable to detect and arrest the shooters.
Last year in March, Private Patrick Okot Odoch attached to Bombo Military Hospital shot dead ten people at Yumbe bar in Bombo town council. The shooting followed a bitter quarrel with one of the deceased. He was arrested and jailed for 90 years at Luzira Prison over the murders.
