Police in Wandegeya have launched an investigation into
the shooting and stabbing to death of Simon Peter Otim, a resident of Sebina
zone- Kalerwe, Mulago III Parish, Kawempe Division.
According
to detectives at Wandegeya police, Otim was attacked at 8:30 pm on Thursday while in his house with the family and a visitor.
“Two unidentified men, one armed with a gun and
another armed with a knife, gained entry into the house. The armed man cocked
the gun and shot Otim around the chest while the other stabbed him
several times on his stomach and around the neck,” Wandegeya detectives said.
Otim’s wife, daughter and the visitor fled to the bedroom where they closed themselves while screaming for help. It is reported
that the assailants pursued them and attempted to gain entry by pushing the
door as they threatened to harm them too.
“The killers were unsuccessful in gaining entry into
the bedrooms where Otim’s wife and daughter were hiding. The assailants eventually
fled the scene. By the time the neighbours responded, the killers had taken
off,” the detective said.
Patrick Onyango the Kampala Metropolitan police
spokesperson said that the deceased’s
neighbours found the victim lying in a pool of blood and they rushed him to
Mulago National Referral Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
“The neighbours notified the police and our officers from
Wandegeya responded immediately. They documented the scene and recorded statements
from relevant witnesses. Our officers conducted a search and one live
ammunition and a cartridge were recovered from the scene,” Onyango said.
