Hailstorm Devastates Villages in Isingiro

Acres of gardens and houses have been destroyed by a heavy hailstorm in Bukanga county Isingiro district. The affected gardens include banana plantations, Cassava, Maize and Beans.

Among the affected villages include Rwenturagara, Katuntu, Nyabubare, Kigazi, Kijubwe, in Nyabubare Parish Rugaaga Sub County.

Mathias Tushabwomwe, the Mayor Rugaaga Town Council says about 31 villages have been affected by the hailstorm that hit the area on Monday night.

He says that the hailstorm struck at a time when the locals are recovering from the famine and drought that hit them three years ago and claimed the lives of people and animals.

Johnson Tumuramye, one of the affected residents says that people had tried to recover after getting loans from banks counting this as a setback.

Jessica Akasiima one of the affected residents of Kijubwe Cell says that the hailstorm destroyed banana plantations which could cause food shortage in the area.
