Hand Grenade Killed Masindi Boy - Police

Kelvin Atugonza a son to Julius Kugonza a resident of Kiryanga cell in Nyangahya division Masindi Municipality was allegedly killed after an object he picked exploded cutting off his hands and crushed out his intestines. He died instantly causing panic among area residents.

Police has revealed that a hand grenade exploded and killed a seven-year-old boy in Masindi district on Sunday.

Kelvin Atugonza, a son to Julius Kugonza, a resident of Kiryanga cell in Nyangahya division, Masindi Municipality was allegedly killed after an object he picked from the garden exploded cutting off his hands and parts of his body.

The incident occurred as Atugonza was going to plant sugarcane in the family garden.

Deo Obura, the Albertine region police Commander (RPC) told Uganda Radio Network (URN) on Tuesday that police and Uganda Peoples Defense forces - UPDF bomb squad operatives were dispatched to the area to find out what caused the death of the seven year old boy.

He says after carrying out investigations, the bomb squad found out that the child was killed by a hand grenade that had been buried under the ground. He says the grenade had stayed in the area for long and had started rusting.

Obura warned Masindi residents to be security conscious and desist from playing with any objects they come across in their gardens without alerting security operatives.
