Kabarole district officials have come under fire from residents of Karangura Sub County over the abandoned works at Nyakitokoli Health Centre III.

In 2020, the Ministry of Health under UgIFT project contracted “Build Base Associates to construct a maternity ward, general ward and staff quarters, at 640 Million Shillings.

However, the construction of the facility, which commenced in February 2020 and was, abandoned for unknown reasons a move that has angered residents and leaders in the area.

Jessica Muhindo, a resident of Nyakitokoli parish says due to the absence of a health centre III, she has no option but to travel to Bukuku Health Centre IV which is five kilometres away from her home.

She says that they were relieved when the hospital was upgraded to a Health Centre III, but are disappointed when works stalled.

Annet Kanyesiga a nurse at Nyakitokoli health Centre III says on average every month the centre receives between 500 to 700 patients, but some are sent away due to lack of services.

She says that the delayed completion of the works has affected health services in the area.

Richard Rwabuhinga, the LCV Chairperson Kabarole says that the district has no answers why construction stalled since the contract was awarded by the Ministry of Health.  He says that they have tried to trace the contractor’s whereabouts in vain.

Julian Sarah Ayesiga the Resident District Commissioner Kabarole says that they received reports that the contractor abandoned the site due to the covid-19 pandemic.
