Health Centre in-charge in Agago Arrested over Theft of Drugs

The Police in Agago District is holding the in-charge of a Geregere Health Center II in Lira Palwo Sub-county over allegations of theft of government drugs.

The suspect, whose identity has been withheld, was arrested on Tuesday along with the Health Center in-charge of drug stores and the watchman.

Agago Resident District Commissioner Andrew Onyuk says that the suspects were arrested following the disappearance of drugs from the health facility drug store.

Onyuk says the suspects are undergoing interrogation at Patongo Central Police station to ascertain the whereabouts of the missing medicines and medical supplies.

He notes that despite the government’s commitment to stock the health facilities with drugs and medical supplies, some individuals are selfish and instead of stealing them.

Onyuk says they are demanding the suspects to reveal where they have taken the medicines.

The matter has been registered under CRB: 102/2021 at Patongo Central Police station. The Acting Agago District Health Officer Helen Drajea couldn't be reached for a comment on this article as she didn't pick or return our reporter's repeated phone calls.

The theft case comes less than a month after another medical worker was arrested by the Police from Kalongo Town Council over alleged theft of drugs, hospital equipment, and medical supplies from Dr Ambrosoli Memorial Hospital Kalongo.

Simon Peter Opio, a theatre Assistant at the Health Facility’s theatre was nabbed with a hospital bed, scissor, surgical hand gloves, 20 ml iodine, surgical blades, syringes, hydrogen peroxide 10mls among others.
