Health Workers At Bududa Hospital Choking On Foul Stench

Bududa hospital staff quarters are filled with a foul stench because of a burst sewage line. The health workers say this has been their life for over three years. 

Built-in 1966, Bududa hospital has nine blocks, which serve as staff quarters. However, sources in the hospital that the sewage line has taken over 50 years without rehabilitation. The most affected are health workers staying on blocks B, C, E, F, G and H.  

A female health worker told URN on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal from her superiors that they are leaving in a terrible situation because of the foul smell from the sewage line. Another health worker said that they are now used to the situation because whoever comes only takes pictures and does nothing about the situation.


She revealed that some engineer recently came and took photos, which raised their hope that the situation could change but to date nothing has been done.

Dr. Sylvia Ntegeka, the Medical Superintendent Bududa hospital, says that they don’t have money to fix the sewage line. She says that they over Shillings 400 million to repair the entire system, which they don’t have since they received fixed grants from the central government.

Milton Kamoti Wasunguyi, the Bududa LC V Chairperson has regretted the mess and promised to follow up on the matter  to ensure that medical workers live a health life.
