Rains Devastate Villages in Nakaseke District

The rain destroyed over 10 houses, Makayi Hill Nursery and Primary School and New Apostolic Church-Makayi. A number of crop gardens were destroyed in the villages of Makayi, Bulemeezi, Kyetume, Kalagala, Mijinje, Kyamutakasa and Ggulu, among others.

 Heavy rains have devastated the counties of Nakaseke and Semuto in Nakaseke district. The rains that started on Thursday evening and went on until Friday morning left more than 200 people helpless.

The rain destroyed over 10 houses, Makayi Hill Nursery and Primary School and New Apostolic Church-Makayi. A number of crop gardens were destroyed in the villages of Makayi, Bulemeezi, Kyetume, Kalagala, Mijinje, Kyamutakasa and Ggulu, among others.

Alice Nantume, a resident of Kasagga village says that the rain deroofed her house leaving her family homeless. They are now hosted by a neighbour.

Joel Mukasa, a resident of Bulemeezi village says that the rain destroyed his two-acre garden, threatening the food security of his household.

Flavia Nakate and Zabali Sarah, all residents decried losses made after rains shattered their gardens which they cultivated with loans from Saccos. The affected residents have appealed to area legislators and the Disaster Preparedness Ministry to come to their rescue.

Luttamaguzi Ssemakula, the Member of Parliament for Nakaseke South says that he has carried out an assessment which will be forwarded to the Office of Prime seeking for help.
