Rain Sweeps Off Buhindagyi Bridge

John Tushemereirwe Kapimpi, the Kicuzi Sub county LC V councilor, says the rain has left a huge trail of destruction. The incident comes barely two weeks after rain destroyed 20 houses leaving dozens of residents homeless.
Heavy rain has destroyed Buhindagyi Bridge, the main link between Ibanda and Rubirizi districts. Rain swept the bridge which is found on River Buhindagyi on Sunday morning.

Buhindagyi Bridge has been connecting Kicuzi Sub County in Ibanda to Kyakabara in Rubirizi. It has also been the key route for the transportation of goods especially foodstuffs to and from the two districts.

The bridge was built two years back with the aim of facilitating transport between the two districts. The rain also destroyed crop gardens in Karuhisi, Kagyezi, Buhindagyi and Kitooma areas.

John Tushemereirwe Kapimpi, the Kicuzi Sub county LC V councilor, says the rain has left a huge trail of destruction. The incident comes barely two weeks after rain destroyed 20 houses leaving dozens of residents homeless.

Melechiudes Kazwengye, the Ibanda District LC V chairperson, says they are planning to visit the area to assess the damage and compile a report for onward transmission to the office of the prime minister for possible intervention. Kazwengye blames the destruction of poor farming practices among residents.
