Heavy Rains Destroy Houses, Crops in Ntungamo

The heavy rains started pounding the area on Wednesday and extended to the bigger part of Thursday. The rains destroyed banana plantations and gardens of Pineapples.

More than 10 houses and several gardens were on Thursday destroyed by heavy rains in Itojo Sub County, Ntungamo district.

The heavy rains started pounding the area on Wednesday up to Thursday. The rains destroyed banana plantations and gardens of Pineapples.

The affected areas are Rwenyonyozi, Kyembare, Mugono, Karagwe, Kashasha and Mishenyi.

Jack Beinamaryo a resident of Kashaha says that the roof of his house was blown off and his entire banana plantation destroyed by the rain.

Savimbi Muhumuza the Itojo Sub County District Councillor says that the leadership of the area is compiling a report after assessing the magnitude of the damage.

The rains also caused a power outage in parts of Ntungamo and Kabale districts for over 10 hours.

Muhumuza, says that says that residents whose houses were destroyed have sought shelter at the homes of relatives and yet to receive any support.

Ntungamo district chairperson Denis Singhahache says that the affected residents are in need of urgent help.

He says that consultations with relevant offices is already under so that they offer support to the affected residents.
