The International Crimes Division of the High Court has issued production warrants for Kenyan National Omar Awadh Omar.

The production order was issued on Thursday by Justice Margaret Oumo Oguli. She directed the Attorney General and the Uganda Police Force to produce Omar in court without fail on Monday and show cause why he has been detained for more than 48 hours.

This was after Omar's Lawyers led by Evans Ochieng told court that they were not ready to proceed in an application challenging Omar's deportation order on grounds that his whereabouts are unknown.

“My Lord the applicant is not in court. He was rearrested immediately after five days when you had set him free.  His relatives, parents have never seen him and neither do they know his whereabouts”, my Lord for that matter, we are not ready to proceed in the absence of the applicant”, Ochieng told Court.

Omar was released on September, 4th together with four other alleged suspects accused of the 2010 twin bombing at the Ethiopian Restaurant and Kyaddondo Rugby  Grounds.

The four other suspects included two Ugandans;   Dr Ismail Kalule and Abubakari Batemetyo as well as two Kenyan Nationals; Muhammed Suleiman Hamid and Yahaya Suleiman Mbuthia.

These had earlier been set free in 2016 but were re-arrested immediately in the court premises and prosecuted again on fresh charges. It is alleged that while in prison, they planned to attack Jinja Town once they were released.

However, last month, the DPP Justice Mike Chibita withdrew the charges against the suspects.
