The National Resistance Movement- NRM party candidate for the Hima town
council LCIII Chairperson seat has died.
Tom Maate Wa'bukombi died on Thursday from Kilembe Mines hospital
in Kasese town according to a close family relative.
Wabukombi won the NRM primaries in September after defeating his long
political nemesis John Katura Musana to the flag polling, 4,178 votes against
Musana’s 3,874 votes. However Musana rejected results and was nominated to contest as an independent candidate.
This was Wa'bukombi’s third attempt to the seat. In the previous elections, the contest between him and Musana ended in chaos and loss of lives.
In 2016, seven people were killed during the LCIII elections. Uganda People Defense Forces- UPDF soldiers were backing police to secure the area after the
declaration of Katura as the winner.
Bernard Musiima a family friend says the deceased had been
hospitalized for a couple of days. He however declined to reveal the cause of death.
Kenneth Kabagambe one of the relatives said the family was yet to
get a post-mortem report from the hospital.
