Hoima High Court Circuit is overwhelmed with a backlog of cases. The court was operationalized in the 2022/23 financial
year to cover the districts of Hoima, Kikuube, Kagadi, Kibaale, Kakumiro,
Buliisa and Hoima City.
However, the court has not performed effectively because of a lack of enough staff and space which has greatly affected the people
of Bunyoro in accessing timely justice.
Statistics at the Hoima High Court Circuit indicate that 2,827 cases have been registered since the inception of the court.
The statistics further reveal that of the registered cases, 1,078 were land-related, 778 were civil and 971 were criminal cases.
1,243 cases have fully been completed while 1,584 are still pending with 543 backlog.
Justice Jesse Byaruhanga, the Resident Judge at Hoima High Court explains that the lack of enough staff and resources is to
blame for the increasing case backlog stating that, the court circuit has only
one resident Judge.
