Last month the health ministry delivered 2,562 doses of Moderna and 650 doses of AstraZeneca to serve people in the city and the entire district respectively but the doses got finished on Tuesday.

This compelled the district health department to immediately notify the health ministry demanding for more vaccines.

Dr. Lawrence Tumusiime, the Hoima district Health officer told Uganda Radio Network in an interview on Saturday morning that the health ministry delivered about 7,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines in the district on Friday.

He says the health officials have already embarked on the distribution of the vaccines to the including vaccination points including Hoima Regional Referral Hospital, Kigorobya Health Center IV, Bujumbura Health Center III, Buseruka Health Center III, Mparangasi Health Center III, Azur Health Center IV and Kabaale Health Center III among others.

Currently more than 15,000 people have so far been vaccinated in the district together with the city since the vaccination exercise kicked off in the country.

However, health officials in the district have expressed concern over the surging COVID-19 cases in both the city and the district.

According to Tumusiime last week alone,11 people tested positive for COVID-19 within the district and the city and these are being managed under the home-based care.

He attributes the trend to lack of adherence to the standard operating procedures-SOPs saying many people have adamantly refused to put on face masks, wash their hands frequently while other public places including the churches have got no hand washing facilities.
