Hoima Resident Succumbs to Iron Bar Injuries

Gerald Murungi, one of the eight people who were attacked and hit by Iron bar hit-men in Hoima town on Saturday night, has died from Mulago Hospital. Murungi, a resident of Lusaka Upper in Hoima Municipality had been referred to Mulago National Referral Hospital after his condition deteriorated.

He had deep cuts on the head and the face. According to medics in Mulago Hospital, Murungi succumbed to excessive bleeding resulting from the injuries.

The iron bar hit-men invaded Hoima town in the wee hours of the night attacked and injured eight people.  The injured included Gerald Murungi, Annet Nyakato, One Shaka and three students of Hoima Nursing School, among others. Some are nursing injuries at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital, while the critical cases were rushed to Mulago Hospital for specialized medical attention.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson told Uganda Radio Network on Sunday that police have intensified their security surveillance network to ensure that the suspects are apprehended. He calls on the public to liaise with security and provide relevant information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects.

He also cautions the public against late night movements that make them targets of hack men.

Similar incidents happened in July 2018, when iron bar hit men invaded Mparo division, Hoima Municipality where they killed one person and critically injured four others. They eventually took off with an unspecified amount of money, hoofers, and DVD players among other things.

In September 2018, police arrested five suspected iron bar hit men who have since been charged in courts of law.
