Hopefulness and Impatience Mark End of International AIDS Conference

A sense of hopefulness tempered with growing impatience marked the end of the 16th International AIDS Conference over the weekend.



A press statement from organizers of the Conference in Toronto, Canada says scientists, clinicians, policymakers, people living with HIV/AIDS and other community leaders and caregivers called for an accelerated pace to scale up HIV prevention, care and treatment programs in resource-limited settings.



The outgoing President of the International AIDS Society, Dr. Helene Gayle, said at the closing of the conference that the meeting provided an ideal opportunity to examine the gap between what society is capable of doing in the face of the unprecedented humanitarian crisis and the actual level of response. Dr. Gayle said despite important momentum over the past few years, the slow pace of progress has led to growing impatience.



Conference Co-Chair, Dr. Mark Wainberg said the conference cannot be deemed a success unless the world collectively realizes its theme
