According to court documents seen by URN, in 2014, Basajjabalaba acquired the services of Hotel International 2000 Ltd for the four aforementioned lawyers through fellow businessman, Godfrey Kirumira.
City businessman, Hassan Basajjabalaba and four prominent city lawyers are in trouble over unpaid hotel bills amounting to Shilling 142 million. The lawyers are Caleb Alaka, Kenneth Kakande, Joseph Kyazze and John Mugisha.
Hotel International 2000 Ltd has dragged the five to the Commercial court for alleged failure to clear the bill for services offered. According to court documents seen by URN, in 2014, Basajjabalaba acquired the services of Hotel International 2000 Ltd for the four aforementioned lawyers through fellow businessman, Godfrey Kirumira.
Hotel International reportedly belongs to Kirumira's wife. Basajjabalaba reportedly wanted a quite environment for his lawyers to concentrate on some unnamed legal work that they were undertaking on behalf of Kampala International University.
According to the documents, the hotel offered accommodation and other related services. Basajjabalaba then made payment in three installments leaving an outstanding balance.
On making a following for the remaining balance, Basajjabalaba told the hotel management that the lawyers are liable for clearing the balance on grounds that he had paid them for their services.
But the lawyers said the businessman should clear the bill, since they were working for him. Now, the hotel management wants court to order the defendants to pay them.
Subsequently, Court has summoned Basajjabalaba and the aforementioned lawyers to defend themselves within 15 days.
