Human rights activists have expressed concern over the unexplained arrest of critics of government. Nicholas Opiyo, the Executive Director of Chapter Four, notes that the recent disappearance of Christopher Aine, an aide to presidential candidate, Amama Mbabazi, raises questions on the ability of Police to handle such cases.

Speaking to the media in Kampala on Monday, Opiyo noted that instead of looking for Aine, Police has repeatedly dismissed the case and continued looking for him to appear in court.

Aine disappeared three weeks ago after Police started hunting for him and other supporters of Mbabazi following clashes with NRM supporters in Ntungamo. Police announced a reward of 20 million Shillings for anyone who will volunteer information leading to Aine\'s arrest.

Mbabazi\'s legal team led by Severino Twinobusingye has since filed a suit against Uganda Police for holding Aine illegally. Maria Burnett, a Senior Africa Researcher at Human Rights Watch (HRW) says it is imperative for the Police to show its commitment to investigate the disappearance of Aine to prove that it is not holding him as alleged by the family.

However, Police spokesperson,  Fred Enanga maintains that Aine isn\'t in Police custody.  Aine\'s family has resolved to hire private investigators to probe the disappearance of their son.
