Lamwo police are holding a man accused of killing his wife following a dispute over Shillings 10,000. The suspect, Alex Olweny, a resident of Kaugoli South Village, Potika Sub-county, allegedly stabbed his wife Jacklin Amony to death after a heated argument over money.
According to Joe Oloya , the Aswa East Regional Public Relations Officer, the couple had gone to a Bar in Potika Trading Centre, where they had a disagreement over the UGX 10,000 that the husband had given to the wife to buy medicine for their child.
"The dispute escalated, and the husband allegedly pulled the wife outside the bar, demanding that she produce the money," he explained. He further disclosed that as the argument continued, the couple walked about 150 meters away from the bar, where the husband allegedly stabbed the wife killing her instantly.
According to Oloya, the police were notified, and a team from Lamwo Central Police Station and Paloga Police Station rushed to the scene. They examined the scene, documented the evidence, and recorded statements from witnesses. Police conveyed the deceased's body to Padibe Health Centre IV for post-mortem examination. The suspect is locked up at Lamwo Police Station.
"We urge all couples to communicate effectively and resolve their disputes peacefully," said Oloya. "We also urge anyone experiencing domestic violence to report to the police or seek help from local authorities." The community is still trying to come to terms with the incident, and many residents are calling for justice to be served.
"We want justice for Amony and her family," said Santa Akwero, a resident of Kaugoli South Village. "We urge the police to thoroughly investigate this incident and ensure that the suspect is brought to justice." She said the incident is a grim reminder of the dangers of domestic violence and the need for couples to resolve their disputes peacefully.
