Defending himself on Friday before Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Miriam
Ayo, Ssewanyana said that he was instead saving Siraji Akim Tumusiime from the
mob.
According to prosecution, Ssewanyana and his co-accused Benson Ssenyonga allegedly
killed Tumusiime, a Mechanic at Kasubi Zone four in Kampala District.
It’s alleged that Ssewanyana ordered the mob to kill Tumusiime for allegedly
stealing his mobile phone on August 16th, 2019 at Munaku-Lubya, in Rubaga division
at around 10:30 pm.
Ssewanyana told the court that he wanted to rescue Tumusiime from the angry mob. He also says that he was beaten for protecting the deceased.
“I was also beaten in my leg joints and hands while helping Siraji and by
the time we took him to a police station in Namungoona, he was still alive and
could even speak,” he said.
Ssenyonga told the court that at around 10 pm, he received a phone call from Ssewanyana
who told him that someone had been beaten near his home.
Ssenyonga said that when he went to the crime scene, he found Tumusiime and
Ssewanyana.
According to Ssenyonga, he found Tumusiime’s hands were tied with ropes
and rushed him up to a police station in Namungoona.
