The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued a warning to conflicting parties in Central African Republic (CAR) saying they will be held accountable.

On Sunday, President Francois Bozize was ousted by rebels who took over the capital, Bangui. The United Nations and African Union have since condemned the action. The UN Security Council has asked parties to desist from violence against civilians, promising to monitor the situation.

And now the office of the ICC prosecutor says there are reports of human rights abuses after the rebel take over.In a statement, Fataou Bensouda, the ICC prosecutor reminds all the parties in CAR that the court has jurisdiction over the country. She says the office will not hesitate to investigate and prosecute all those involved in committing crimes.

The office warns that those seeking to attain or retain power by targeting civilians will be held accountable.

ICC demands an immediate cease on commission of crimes in Central African Republic.Reports from Bangui indicate that residents of the capital are still without power and running water for the third day running.

President Bozize, who himself came to power through a military coup in 2003, is believed to be in Cameroon where he is seeking refuge.
