The Inspectorate of Government has tasked Ibanda Town Clerk to dismiss or cause the dismissal of Nuuhu Kazibwe, a Nursing Assistant at Bufunda   Health Centre III.

In her June 23rd letter, the Deputy Inspector of Government, Mariam Wangadya, says Kazibwe was convicted by the Anti-Corruption Court in Kololo on abuse of office contrary to Section 11 of the Anti-Corruption Act, 2009 and theft of government stores contrary to Sections 254 (1) and 261of the Penal Code Act CAP 120,

According to Wangadya, Kazibwe pleaded guilty to both counts before Moses Nabende, the Grade one magistrate attached to the Anti-corruption court on June 4th 2020. “He was sentenced to count 1 to pay a fine of UGX 2,000,000 or two year’s imprisonment in default. On count II, he was sentenced to six-month imprisonment” wrote Wangadya.

As such, Wangadya says that Section 46 of the Anti- Corruption Act, 2009 demands that such a person ceases to hold public office. It provides that; "A person who is convicted of an offence under Section 2,4,11 and 25 shall be disqualified from holding a public office for ten years from his or her conviction."

The Ibanda Town Clerk, Lillian Kobusingye, says that she has seen the letter on social media and is yet to receive her copy. Eddie Natamba, the director of the Southwestern Institute for Policy and Advocacy has welcomed the directives by the IG, saying that it is very rare today to get evidence on corrupt officials despite the fact that people are aware of the vice.

Kazibwe’s trouble started when he was picked up by detectives attached to the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) following a tip-off from concerned residents about the theft of drugs at Bufunda health center III.

According to the Charge Sheet, on or about June 2nd 2020 while at Bufunda Health Center III, Ibanda Municipal Council, Kazibwe stole government drugs worth Shillings 700,000.
