Iganga Accident Claims 5, 5 Others Critically Injured

Five people were killed this morning and five others critically injured in a motor accident at Walugogo Village along the Iganga-Jinja Highway.  

The accident occurred when a Kampala bound trailer registration number 9725AC -19 -6792AC-19-UAV671A rammed into a taxi that was parked on the roadside during a heavy down pour. 

Henry Batala, an eyewitness says the trailer driver rammed into the taxi while trying to avoid knocking a cyclist. The dead are Haawa Namusobya, a teacher at Victoria High school in Iganga, Yusuf Isabirye, a trader in Iganga main market, Aisha Nakalani, a house wife in Iganga, Irene Muitesi and Saida Namukuve.  

The injured include Hussein Masinya, the head teacher Iganga Comprehensive High school, Emma Isiko, Faith Isiko, Getrude Kwanga and Farouk Musasizi, a security guard in Iganga Municipality.  The injured are admitted at Iganga Referral Hospital. 

Doctor Sande Musoke, the in Charge of the casualty ward at Iganga Main Hospital says the accident victims sustained deep cuts on their heads, hands and legs. He says they are closely monitoring four of the accident since they could have lost a lot of blood due to the deep cuts on their bodies.  

Julius Muhoozi, the Officer in Charge of Traffic at Iganga central Police Station says the driver of the trailer was speeding. He says the accident could have been avoided if the trailer was moving slowly.
