Ikwera Girls SS, Kwania District Bicker over UGX 150m Presidential Pledge

The money was sent to Kwania district local government by the Ministry of Finance to purchase a new Mini-bus for the school.

Ikwera Girls Secondary School has accused Kwania District local government authorities of using 150 million shilling meant for the purchase of a school bus.

The money was sent to Kwania district by Ministry of Finance to purchase a new Mini-bus for the school during the last financial year of 2018/2019.

President Museveni pledged to donate the bus to thee school after the Truck, a Tata Lorry that was used to transport soldiers for training to Ibuje Sub County broke down in 2006.

Aloysius Odongo, the headteacher Ikwera Girls SS wants the office of the President to intervene and probe how the funds were utilized.

Odongo said since last year when the money was sent, the district has not given the school any explanation or delivered the bus.

He says the district authorities have since then been making several promises to deliver the bus in vain.

Betty Akello Okori, the Apac Resident District Commissioner says that she received a circular from the President’s office confirming that the money was sent to the district.

Andrew Omunu, the Kwania District Education Officer, says that the funds were diverted to Aduku Seed school.

Without specifying what the money was used for, Omunu says they will  budget for the minibus in the next financial year.

Currently, Ikwera Girls SS spends between four to six million shillings each term hire private trucks to transport students for various activities.
