The Masaka police in collaboration with the Rapid Response Unit have arrested three suspected armed robbers including an Imam of Kisugu Mosque in Bukakata Sub county.

The Imam identified as Saidi Baguma aged 28, was arrested together with Denis Ndyanabo, a security guard attached to Damascus Security Group and Ramanthan Mugenyi.

A rifle and 10 rounds of ammunition belonging to Ndyanabo were recovered from their hideout in Bukakata.

The suspects were rounded up yesterday after they reportedly robbed 100,000 shillings from Azeidi Kitaka, a businessman at Makonzi village in Bukakata.

Noah Serunjogi, the Southern Region police spokesperson says the suspects have been terrorizing people especially businessmen along Bukakata landing site, who travel very early in the morning and late at night.

Serunjogi says they have bee tracking the trio for some time with the help of undercover detectives.

Serunjogi says the public is facing serious trouble with security guards who are not well trained and scrutinized before deployment. He appealed to private security groups to deploy well-trained and scrutinized guards to avoid regrets in the end.

However, Saidi Baguma denied the allegations saying he is a respected person and prominent businessman whose enemies aim at damaging his reputation.
