Immature Fish Impounded in Buvuma

The Uganda People's Defence Forces -UPDF has impounded immature fish worth one billion shillings in Buvuma District. The impounded fish was found hidden in the bush.

Captain Steven Alituha, the commander of the Fisheries Protection Unit in Buvuma district says that 20 sacks of immature Nile perch were found hidden in a bush at Namatare landing site.

He says that the immature fish was going to be exported to Congo where it is on demand.

The impounded fish was later distributed to residents of Namatare.

Alituha says that the protection unit will sensitise fishermen against illegal fishing.

Officers from the Fish Protection Unit have on several occasions arrested fishermen with illegal gears and taken them to courts of law.
