The limited police manpower in Bukedi South sub-region is frustrating the enforcement of the COVID-19 preventive measures. There are slightly over 300 police officers in Bukedi South region that comprises Tororo, Busia and Butaleja district.

Moses Mugwe, the Bukedi South Region Police Spokesperson, says many communities that are in distant areas and rural trading centers are behaving in total disregard of the COVID-19 preventive measures.

He, however, says that they can’t do much to enforce the COVID-19 preventive measures due to inadequate manpower.

Kasim Matovu, the acting Tororo District Police Commander has also raised concern over the continuous confrontation between police officers and Boda boda riders.

He says the riders have kept on threatening to knock the traffic officers trying to enforce the COVID-19 directives.

He has promised to start arresting those flouting COVID-19 guidelines and impound the vehicles of defiant persons.
