Uganda’s top female badminton player, Shamim Bangi found the going tough when she lost to India’s Saili Rane 2-0 (21-6, 21-10) last night in the second round of the Bahrain International Series.

Bangi’s Coach William Kabindi told URN on phone from Bahrain that his player had simply had a bad game. The Indian player won the 2013 Uganda International women's title.

Kabindi said they are now focusing on the Great Bahrain International Challenge slated for November 5-9. Bangi beat Jordan’s Dania Mozher Alkalili 2-0 in the first round. Kabindi says a positive outcome from the event is the fact that Bangi has collected 920 points for dropping out in the second round.

The seventh placed African player who has featured in the Cyprus, Kenya and Uganda International events this year is focused on qualifying for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Edwin Ekiring is the only Ugandan badminton player to feature in any Olympic Games.  The Holland based player took part in the two Olympic Games in China and UK.
