Interdicted MUST PRO Reinstated, Transferred

Denis Lukaya, the interdicted Public Relation Officer at Mbarara University of Science and Technology has been reinstated and transferred.

Lukaya was interdicted in June for allegedly attempting to physically attack Professor Therestine Obua, the Vice-Chancellor.

The interdiction followed a complaint raised by Professor Obua in a letter dated May 13, 2019, addressed to the University Secretary over the alleged threats. Lukaya was interdicted at a time when the staff were protesting the reappointment of Obua.

Now in a letter dated 22nd of November 2019, Lukaya has been transferred to the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology as the Senior Administrative Assistant Public Relations Officer with immediate effect.

A letter of final warning has also been issued to the officer cautioning the officer against involvement in any case of indiscipline.  

Julius Taremwa, the MUST Senior Administration Forum - (MUSTASA) general secretary, says that the lifting of the interdiction was long overdue and adding that the interdiction had in the first place been unlawful.

Taremwa says that the industrial action by the staff had valid issues affecting the staff and the students but the administration instead resorted to intimidating the workers with interdiction and threats of having them sacked.
