Isingiro District Gets First COVID-19 Community Case

Isingiro Resident District Commissioner Herbert Muhangi says that the district gets many people from Tanzania trying to enter the country illegally to sell merchandise. At the same time, a number of Ugandans go to Tanzania to till gardens.

Isingiro district has recorded its first community case of COVID-19 according to results that were released this morning by the Ministry of Health. 

According to Isingiro district officials, the case is a 19-year-old male who had travelled to Tanzania and sneaked into the country using a porous border. He was later picked from Rubondo.

Isingiro Resident District Commissioner Herbert Muhangi says that the district gets many people from Tanzania trying to enter the country illegally to sell merchandise. At the same time, a number of Ugandans go to Tanzania to till gardens.

To date, the area has 69 people- both Ugandan and Tanzanian nationals undergoing quarantine. Muhangi says that even the community case that was recorded, was picked before interacting with other people and is now under isolation. He is one of the four new cases confirmed from samples that were tested on Monday, bringing Uganda's caseload to 1,029.

The other cases that tested positive were from Amuru. Two other truck drivers also tested positive. The truck drivers entered the country using the Kerwa and Mpondwe points of entry located in Yumbe and Kasese respectively. The four positive cases were part of 1,702 cases that were tested yesterday.
