Isingiro South MP Rejects Roadworks

The Isingiro County south Member of Parliament, Alex Byarugaba, has criticized the shoddy work being done by Multiplex Company on the Mbarara-Kikagate road.

During a tour of his constituency recently, Byarugaba complained that Multiplex was using poor murram and making the road very narrow. He said that the road has already developed pot holes before it is officially handed over to government.

Multiplex was contracted by government to construct a 50 km first class murram road stretch at a cost of 600 million shillings.

Under the contract, the company was expected to widen and lay first class murram on the road. Work is expected to end in July.

Byarugaba says that Multiplex should not be paid until it corrects all the anomalies on the road.

Recently, the residents of Isingiro district had planned to demonstrate over the shoddy work on the road, but the plan was reversed by the State Minister for Works, John Byabagambi, who intervened and promised to talk to multiplex.
