Innocent Tumushabe, the Isingiro District Water Officer and his assistant Simon Kahurwa have been interdicted for alleged misappropriation of funds. It follows recommendations by police and District Public Accounts Committee resulting from a six months probe into the misappropriation of 30 million shillings meant for sinking boreholes and constructing shallow wells. Two others officers Babra Kobusigye, a social worker and Boaz Nuwamanya, the engineer in charge of boreholes have also been suspended from office.

Silver Mwesigye, the speaker Isingiro district says that more action will be taken against the implicated officers to ensure zero tolerance to corruption amongst civil servants.

Early this year, a field verification exercise conducted by the sectoral committee on works, discovered that some of the companies contracted to sink boreholes and build shallow wells in the 2010/2011 financial year were paid fully despite the fact that they didn’t complete their work. Some of the implicated companies include KWED, OATS and JOPACO construction companies. As a result, the Joseph Kiiza, works committee recommended a probe into the mess in the water department.

Innocent Tumushabe, the district water officer resigned his job. However, Alex Kwizera, the then Isingiro Chief Administrative Officer noted that the resignation will not exonerate him from the financial loss caused to the district until a probe committee comprised of police and district public accounts committee makes its final findings.
