The Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, says Benni’s friends have told Police that he had threatened to end his life out of frustration resulting from loss of money and property.
Italian national, Pierluigi Ruiliano Benni
reportedly shot himself dead after losing unspecified amount of money,
according to Police.
Benni’s lifeless body was found lying in a pool
in the home of his Swiss friend, Lucas Bally on Bulago Island in Mukono
District.
The deceased is said to have used a
privately licensed star pistol number UG IND T1102-06A01087 00241 to end his
life.

Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, says Benni’s friends have
told Police that he had threatened to end his life out of frustration resulting
from loss of money and property.
He however, didn’t disclose the circumstances
under, which he lost the property and to whom he lost it too.
A few days ago, URN
reported how police pathologists were stuck with Benni’s body after his
suspicious relatives back in Italy notified the Italian Embassy to request
police to stay the postmortem exercise until they arrive in the country.
According to Owoyesigyire, the
postmortem was conducted in in the presence of officials from the Italian
Embassy since the deceased’s relatives failed to make it to Uganda.

Police have also indicated that the deceased’s remains could be
buried in Uganda since had dual citizenship following his long stay in Uganda.
Benni was a holder of a Ugandan passport number B1454904
and Italian passport number YA3489465. Benni isn’t the only foreign national to have
ended his life in Uganda this month.
Four days after Benni’s suicide, an Indian national, Vikrant
Sangir was also found hanging dead in his room at Fairway hotel in Kampala.
Police is currently analyzing CCTV footage from the hotel to establish what
could have happened.
