The World's 112th ranked player Rosario Maddaloni is the top men's ranked player for the 2019 Uganda International Badminton Championships which starts on Thursday to Sunday at the Lugogo Arena.
Maddaloni from Italy will be all out to try and win the International Series tournament which will have a total prize money of UGX36 million (US$10,000).
Tournament Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Badminton Association (UBA), Simon Mugabi said they expect a very competitive event since over 25 players have entered. “It will give our local players good challenge as they prepare to take part in other international tournaments and the 2019 All Africa Games to take place in Morocco,” added Mugabi.
Five Indian male players led by Singh Siddharth and Aman Farogh Sanjay will also be out to prove a point. Former Ugandan international Edwin Ekiring will also battle starting from the qualifiers, while Fred Kirabo will start in the main draw.
Egypt's Hadia Hosny is ranked top for the women's singles. The Championship which will feature the the men's and women's singles and doubles and mixed doubles.
The event will also attract players from Nigeria, Jordan, Azerbaijan, Switrzerland, Luxemburg, Iceland, Egypt, Zambia, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Mongolia, Mozambique and Iran.
