Itojo Hospital Medical Supretendant Arrested for Embezzlement

Itojo Hospital medical superintendent has been arrested for embezzling shs.20 million meant to support cervical cancer surgeries in Ntungamo district.
The  Itojo Hospital medical superintendent has been arrested for alleged embezzelement.

Dr Trephine Mugisha was arrested on Friday afternoon by detectives from the State House medicine and health services montitoring Unit. He was arrested in connection with the embezzlement of 20 million shillings which was meant for cervical cancer surgeries in Ntungamo district.

The money in question was sent as by PATHFINDER, an international NGO to support Cervical cancer treatment in Ntungamo district.

The money was remitted between 2010 and 2011.

ASP Kakuru Ian, the unit head of investigation says Dr. Mugisha was found with forged receipts and other false accountability documents.

Kakuru says they have been investigating Mugisha from 2010 until Friday when they swung into action and arrested him.

Poly Namaye, the South Western regional police spokesperson, says Dr. Mugisha will be charged with several counts ranging from corruption, embezzlement, abuse of office, altering false documents and forged receipts.

President Museveni formed the  state house medicine and health services monitoring unit in 2009 to fight corruption and theft of Government drugs in the health sectors.

More than 100 billion shillings of government money has so far been discovered and several people have already been prosecuted by the Anti-corruption court.

Some of the culprits nabbed so far are  Dr Sam Kamba formerly working with the ministry of health and Dr. Joseph Nsanga of Kabong Hospital.
