A contender to the presidency of the Justice Forum also known as Jeema has decried what he called bad faith constitutional amendments which he said were a last resort measure to derail his candidacy.

Abdulnoor Ssentongo Kyamundu who is vying to replace Bugiri Municipality Member of Parliament Asuman Basalirwa told Uganda Radio Network that the ongoing consultations that will lead to the amendment of the party constitution can only be read as means to stop him from becoming the party president.

Kyamundu said although he agrees that the party constitution needs to be updated to suit the aspirations of the present, he is convinced that they are only targeting him. He said, if indeed the party wanted amendments, they should have contracted lawyers to come up with a draft that would then be debated and passed by either the National Executive Council or the delegates’ conference that had been slated for this year.

Cue out…in bad faith,”//

//Cue in…“naye kyemanyi

Cue out… bakolera ani,”//

Kyamundu said, however, that no matter the procrastinations and machinations, he will still push ahead with his candidacy because he has a grand plan for the party.

//Cue in… “I’m in there

Cue out…three seven people,”//

Speaking to URN, Dr Swaib Kaggwa Nsereko, the spokesperson of Jeema said nobody should be worried about the ongoing exercise to amend the party constitution. He said the current party constitution which has never been amended in the last 20 years yet the world has tremendously changed from when it was adopted.

//Cue in… “currently we are

Cue out… necessary to do so,”//

Asked why they chose to undertake the process when the electoral process had already begun, Nsereko said this should not worry anybody because all the current leaders of the party have indicated that they don’t want to stand again, therefore, whatever they are doing, they are doing it for the good of the party and not individual benefit.

//Cue in…the timing is

Cue out… with something new,”

The crisis that is threatening Jeema builds on the crisis in almost all the major opposition political parties. Forum for Democratic Change, Uganda People’s Congress, National Unity Platform, and the Democratic Change continue to grapple with conflicts with some having two factions.
