Police in Hoima are holding a woman accused of torching her co-wife's grass-thatched house leading to the death of two children. The suspect is 24-year-old Scovia Tuhaise, a resident of Kihesi cell in Kigorobya town council.

Tuhaise is said to have set the house ablaze on Wednesday night when her husband Leornard Kyosaba and her co- wife Monica Busiinge were away for a night dance.

5-year old Doreen Ayesiga and her 9-year-old sister Kobusiinge were sleeping in the house when it was set ablaze.  They were burnt beyond recognition.

Bernard Akankwasa, the Hoima District Police Commander, says they picked up Tuhaise as a prime suspect because she has been threatening to burn her husband and the co-wife in the house for some time. Tuhaise has reportedly been angry with Kyosaba for marrying another woman in her house.

The suspect is in custody at Hoima police station. She faces charges of murder and arson. The incident has left residents of Kihesi cell in shock. Doreen Asiimwe, a neighbor says they have never registered such a brutal incident on their village.

Police have handed the charred bodies of the minors to the family for burial.
