Jinja Hippos beats Toyota Buffaloes win Soggy cup.
Jinja Hippos RFC on Saturday beat Toyota Buffaloes with 30-24 to win this season's Soggy cup.
Soggy cup is played in memory of a legendary national rugby team coach, Robert Sseguya whose notch for the sport kick-started in his teen ages all through to a successful professional career.
Soggy as he was commonly known by both fans and colleagues was a seasoned rugby player who retired into coaching the same sport before breathed his last in December, 2021.
Soggy however, succumbed to cancer while still an active coach at the Jinja Hippos rugby club.
Now, the notable clubs, comprising of both Buffaloes and Hippos, which were coached by Soggy during his last career days have resolved to play their first top-flight league game in his memory codenamed Soggy cup.
Hippos 30 points comprised of three tries, three penalty shootouts and three successful conversions from the trio of Owen Mugogo, Yasin Wasswa and Meddie Bagalana respectively.
On the other hand, Buffaloes earned 24 points through two from Brian Akena and Ronald Ogwang, respectively.
Hippos head coach, Eddie Querisma saysthe game was tight but the boys exhibited resilience which earned them this season's edition of Soggy cup.
Hippos continues to face a challenge of losing points in the second round, but in regards. Querisma said that his squad had been boosted with young players capable of exhibiting competitive ball displays throughout the course of the season.
Charles Onen, the head coach of Buffaloes says that, the players did their best in closing in the wide margin evidenced by their opponents throughout the first round.
Onen is however optimistic that the squad is well equipped with the necessary skills required in exhibiting competitive performance throughout the course of the league.
