A man in Jinja district who fled into hiding after his wife has surrendered to Kiira region police authorities. The suspect is 65-year-old Sabasi Byakika, a resident of Buwala A village, in Butagaya sub-county in Jinja district.

Byakika is said to have hacked his wife, Deborah Naigaga 60 on Friday following a heated argument and fled into hiding. Naigaga sustained injuries on the head and neck and bled to death. Her lifeless body was retrieved by the neighbors who told URN that the couple was embroiled in endless fights and efforts to reconcile them didn’t produce results.

Despite this, the couple insisted on staying under the same roof. However, on Monday, Byakika surrendered to the police. A source privy to the investigations told URN on condition of anonymity that Byakika has since confessed to the crime but insists that he never intended to kill his wife.

“He appears remorseful while explaining circumstances, under which his wife died and insists that it was an act of manslaughter,” the source said. Kiira Region police spokesperson, James Mubi told URN that the suspect will be transferred to Buwenge central police station with the aim of expediting their inquiries into the matter.

Mubi said that detectives will revisit the scene of crime so as to gather more incriminating evidence against the suspect.
