Jinja Municipal Councillor Arrested For Soliciting Bribe

Police has arrested Bernard Mbayo, the Jinja central west councillor for allegedly soliciting a bribe from an investor. 

Mbayo was caught red-handed while receiving a bribe of 500,000 Shillings from Lt. Edrine Ochieng, at plot 16 located along Naranbhai road in Jinja municipality. 

Ochieng had earlier on filed a complaint of harassment at Jinja CPS where he accused Mbayo for sabotaging construction works at his premises if he fails to pay him a bribe of 500,000 Shillings. 

Ochieng is said to have purchased the said plot at a fee of 400 million Shillings and his plan to construct a hotel were approved by the Jinja municipal council technical in July this year.

Police detectives together with Ochieng mobilized the said amount and set a trap for Mbayo who was arrested immediately after receiving the money. 

Ochieng further says that construction works have stalled due to unfavourable conditions orchestrated by councillors who demand bribes from him.

Jamadah Matovu, the officer in -charge of Jinja CPS confirms the arrest adding that investigations are underway. He adds that the suspect will face charges of obtaining money by false pretence.
