The deceased has been identified as Jimmy Olila, a teacher at Kakamari Primary school in Sidok Sub County and the injured is Dada Rose Romano, the Karenga Sub County chief.
Police in Kaabong district are investigating two separate shootings including one that resulted into the death of a teacher. The incidents occurred at 8.00pm on Monday in Kaabong town council and Sidok sub counties respectively some 193 kilometers North West of Moroto town.
The deceased has been identified as Jimmy Olila, a teacher at Kakamari Primary school in Sidok Sub County and the injured is Dada Rose Romano, the Karenga Sub County chief. Irene Aceng, the Karamoja region police spokesperson says the deceased was shot at the door steps of his friend’s home. She notes that before the teacher could enter the house unknown person opened fire killing him instantly.
She says security agencies are still hunting for the assailants. Eric Odwar, the Kaabong District Education Officer suspects that the gunmen terrorizing residents must have been accomplices in the shooting of the teacher. He describes the death of the teacher as unfortunate. He says teachers sacrifice to come and work in Karamoja under difficult circumstances.
In a related development, unknown gunmen opened fire at Dada Rose Romano, the Karenga sub county chief injuring him in the thighs. Romano was riding his numberless motorbike when he was hit by three bullets in his right leg. The thugs managed to escape without being noticed. He is currently admitted at Kaabong Hospital. The shooting, brings to three the number of people shot in the district. A few days ago, a UPDF soldier shot dead a civilian under mysterious circumstances.
The incident happened in the heart of Kaabong town council along Warrior Street. The deceased was identified as Lochul Loutaa, a resident of Meusi village, Morukori parish in Kalapata Sub County.
