Police in Kabale is holding a laboratory technician with Kabale Surgical Clinic for aiding an abortion.
Moses Tindimwebwa (32) was arrested on February 11th, 2013 after he allegedly helped a minor who had been defiled to abort.
A 16 year old girl is said to have approached the laboratory technician on the 5th of February 2013 with the intention of carrying out an abortion and was given tablets and an injection that led to the loss of the pregnancy.
The girl in question is said to have been defiled in November 2012 by Bruce Tusasibwe (19) a student at Kigezi Cleverland High School resulting in pregnancy.
The parents of the girl realised her life was in danger because she was over bleeding. After taking her to hospital, they reported the matter to Kabale police which moved in to arrest him as well as the defiler Bruce Tusasibwe.
Kabale Surgical Clinic proprietor Dr. Robert Tumuhimbise told Uganda Radio Network that he was not aware of the transaction between the laboratory technician and the defiled minor.
Tumuhimbise rubbished allegations that his clinic is known for carrying out illegal abortions.
However, another member of staff was earlier arrested for conducting an abortion in a case still being investigated by police.
Kigezi regional Police spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed and urged parents to be on the lookout. He said abortions are very dangerous and other alternatives should always be sought.
