Krone Mines Uganda Limited is the only mining company that pays royalties to Kabale district.

Over 100 companies are licenced to carry out mining in Kabale district.

George Eneku, the Kabale mines inspector says out of 100 mining companies registered only Krone has honored its tax obligations.

Eneku says he has started patrols to make sure all minerals leaving the district are given movement permits which government will use to claim its royalties.

He says the district will be earning a lot of money from volcanic ash and iron ore which are on demand from cement factories in Hima and Tororo respectively.

However Adison Kakuru, the Kabale district chairman, accuses government of failing to remit royalities to the district for the wolfram mineral, which is extracted there.

Kakuru says the district has written to the Ministry of Finance permanent secretary, demanding for 17 % of the revenue that government receives from Krone mines limited.

Kakuru says the district needs the money to finance its activities.

Rose Amooti, the Krone Mines Ltd, Managing Director, says her company acknowledges its duty of paying Royalties to the ministry of finance which should remit back to Kabale.

She says she will continue honoring her part but advised the district to have a mechanism of getting its share from Kampala.
