Robert Kakuru Byamugisha, executive Director of Kick Corruption Out of Uganda (KICK-U) described the deceased as a prominent, legendary and eminent Ugandan who has contributed massively towards development of education sector and education in the civil society sector.
Kabale
is mourning the death of Associate Professor Jassy Kwesiga Bagyendera.
Born
from Kamwezi sub county in Rukiga district, the former Associate Proffessor at
Makerere University also former top official at Development Network of
Indigenous Voluntary Associations (DENIVA), died on Friday morning from Nakasero hospital in Kampala, according to a family member.
A
family member who confirmed this to our reporter on the condition of anonymity, however, did not reveal the cause of death.

Kakuru Byamugisha, executive Director of Kick Corruption Out of Uganda (KICK-U), described the deceased as a prominent, legendary and eminent Ugandan who has
contributed massively towards the development of the education sector and education in
the civil society sector. Kakuru says that the establishment of DENIVA
resulted in the formation of many non-government and civil society
organizations, including KICK-U, which are currently playing a very big role in
advocacy.
Kakuru says that Kwesiga will also be remembered for nurturing several Civil Society Organization leaders.

Simon
Byamukama, the executive Director of Let Us Save Uganda Development Initiative
(LUSUDI), a community-based organization operating from Kabale and Rubanda
districts, says that Kwesiga will be remembered as a people-centered professor
who would bring reality to the community in a context of
development. Byamukama also says that he will be remembered for his humanity, spirit and uncompromising nature.
He
also says Kwesiga will be remembered for playing a big role in advocacy so that
communities benefit from government services and get free civic working space.

Robert
Bugabo, a researcher attached to National Resistance Movement (NRM party)
Kabale office says that Kwesiga will be remembered for advocating for
establishment of Makerere University Centre for Continuing Education services
in regions in Mbarara, Kabale, and Fort Portal in 1982 to help learners don’t
struggle travelling to Kampala to seek education survives.

Prof Kwesiga, the husband to Profeffor Joy Costance Kwesiga, who
currently serves as Kabale University Vice, is a former Associate Professor at
Makerere University, where he worked in the Institute of Adult and Continuing
Education.
He served as the Executive Director of DENIVA, a Network of
Local NGOs, founded in 1988. After retiring from DENIVA in 2012, after 15 years
of service, he has been playing consultancy and advisory roles in the wider
Civil Society Sector.

participated in many national and international conferences and seminars
on different topics including but not limited to Social Development,
