Kabale Municipality leaders have rejected three roads that a contractor was set to handover today citing shoddy and incomplete works.
The roads are; Bank lane, a 0.6 kilometer stretch joining Kabale road and Nyerere road, Keita road measuring 0.4 kilometers connecting from Nyerere road and Nkunda road which connects from Nyerere road, measuring 0.45 kilometers.
The three roads, located in the Central division, Kabale municipality were constructed under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development-USMID project, an initiative of the World Bank that seeks to enhance infrastructure Development in select municipalities.
The 1.5 billion Shillings project was contracted to Vidas Engineering Company Limited owned by the Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament Catherine Atwakiire Ndamira and her husband Didas Ndamira.
On Friday, Kabale Municipality Mayor, Emmanuel Sentaro Byamugisha led a team compromising the Central Division Chairman Sam Arineitwe and Northern Division Chairman Isaac Mucunguzi Rushoga and several councilors to receive the roads. However, the leaders said that the roads were not paved in line with the terms of the contract and that the contractor had not laid slab covers on top of the drainage system.
Kabale Municipality Mayor, Emmanuel Sentaro Byamugisha says that they could not receive the project with tons of sand on top of the pavers to observe the installations. Byamugisha also says that as leaders they have ordered the contractor to have rectified all the messes by Tuesday next week.
