Security and National Resistance Movement-NRM party officials in Kabale have convened a crisis meeting to devise means of neutralizing what transpired during a consultative meeting organised by Andrew Aja Baryayanga, the Kabale municipality member of parliament over the weekend.

On Saturday, Baryayanga convened a consultative meeting on the proposed scrapping of the presidential age limit involving political leaders in the municipality. Eighty eight leaders voted against the proposed amendment while nine supported the proposal. Two other leaders abstained from voting on the matter.

On Sunday, Baryayanga held a general consultative meeting with his voters in Kabale Main Stadium. Only three out of the more than 1000 residents voted in favor of the proposal. On Monday, Kabale security officials led by Jero Mugarura, the Kigezi Regional Internal Security Officer, Darias Nandiinda, the Resident District Commissioner, his Deputy, Denis Nzeirwe and Pauline Bigyirwa, Kabale district NRM vice Chairperson held a crisis meeting with all party leaders at Jophan Hotel Makanga hill in Kabale Municipality to forge a way forward.

During the meeting, Mugarura noted that the dominance of the anti-age limit removal supporters has become a security concern. Mugarura also faulted the NRM party leaders for being timid to defend their party and wondered why they have failed to come out openly to fight those opposing the age limit removal.

He said the leaders should have invaded the legislator's consultative meeting to challenge what he was telling the voters.

Darias Nandiida, the Kabale Resident District Commissioner, says there is no way they will allow the NRM party official to continue sleeping instead of popularizing the age limit removal campaign, which is pitying the opposition against the ruling party.
