Kabale University to Recruit 114 Staff

Kabale University will receive an additional Shillings 9.5 billion on its wage bill in the next financial year to allow the recruitment of 114 staff.

According to the budget estimates tabled before the Education Committee of parliament on Tuesday, Kabale University will receive Shillings 32.2 billion in the 2019/2020 financial year from 22.3 billion the current financial year.

Kabale University has 225 staff comprising of teaching and non-teaching staff.  However, Babugura, told the committee the need additional staff, because the available number affects their operations.  

He explained that due to under staffing, the university uses part time lecturers from other universities but they are often committed and tend not to deliver on time.

The policy statement from the university shows that they have 116 part time staff from Bishop Barlam University, Bishop Stuart University and Mbarara University of Science and Technology among others. 

The university also has international staffs from Nigeria who lecturer on voluntary basis. 

Babugura notes that they tend to scale down on part time lectures with the planned recruitment in the coming financial year. 

He said they will maintain part timers in unique programs where they require external assistance.

In its presentation to the Education Committee in January this year, Kabale University requested for Shillings 8.1 billion to recruit more teaching staff. 

Kabale University has a total enrollment of 3512 students, 43 percent of them being females.
