As a result, Kakurus residents mobilised themselves and destroyed houses belonging to Jessica Hesimana, Gaston Byamahanga and Jacqueline Kanana in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.
Four houses have been destroyed in Nshanjare trading, Ikumba Sub County in Kabale district following clashes between residents.
The clashes followed the arrest of six residents for their role in the destruction of property belonging to two crime preventers who were picked up in September in connection with the death of Wilson Kakuru, a suspected rapist.
Kakuru was clobbered to death by a group of residents led by the crime preventers for the attempted rape of Jessica Hesimana on September 28th.
As a result, Kakuru\'s relatives mobilised themselves and destroyed houses belonging to the rap victim Jessica Hesimana, Gaston Byamahanga and Jacqueline Kanana, both crime preventers in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.
They also killed eight cows, fifteen goats and destroyed property worth millions of Shillings. As a result, Police swung into action and picked up Santorine Mubangizi, Gaston Mutabazi, Phillip Kakubiro, Innocent Karoro, Oscar Raulensio Rurancurana and Turinawe Dafuro in connection to the mob action.
The arrest sparked fresh clashes leading to the destruction of four other houses. The residents argued that they destroyed the property belonging to the murder suspects to avenge the death of their son saying there was need for police to arrest any of them.
Erasmus Ziryampa, a resident of Nshanjare trading says his house was burnt to ashes, adding that he was lucky to escape before the angry residents could catch up with him. Ely Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson says they have deployed in the area to calm down the situation.
He says they have launched investigations to get to the bottom of the matter.
